Q: I was installing a second UC1284 and Windows crashed/Windows doesn't shut down properly when installed .
A: Download and install the latest driver version 1.8.

Q: My UC1284 used to work fine until Windows 95 crashed. I reformatted the hard drive but now the Epson Stylus printer won't print to the USB port. It tells me that the USB port is not connected and says that the ICOMPLI.DLL is missing.
A: We do not have the product driver file. You may need to contact Microsoft for USB support for Win 95 or upgrade to Win 98 for full USB support.

Q: The USB adapter cannot be detected/ HP Laserjet 4L won't print and I get a system error message.
A: Check whether the BIOS is enabled, disable the "BI-DI", and download the latest version driver. You can run UC-REMOVE, plug the converter back in so that Windows can detect the new hardware. But if it does not show up on the device manager list, it might be a problem with the system. (The HP2100 does not support bi-directional).

Q: My computer won't go to "sleep mode" while the UC 1284 is connected - what should I do?
A: Sometimes the system has a problem when trying to manage the power and USB signal simultaneously. Check to see if you have the latest driver installed. (There is no driver available for the MAC). Also, we suggest you download the Microsoft power management tool to help you handle the problem.

Q: Does the UC1284 work with the Canon LB460?
A: It cannot be used with LB460 because it requires bi-directional.

Q: I'm using Windows 95 and my Epson Stylus Color 600 printer does not work.
A: Check whether the USB is ready, or make sure that you install the UC1284 before installing the printer driver. It is also possible that Win 95 does not have full USB support.

Q: With the UC1284 installed, I can print to my HP 672 printer, but the printer head alignment tool does not work.
A: the HP software is designed to use the LPT port, which is why there is a problem with the alignment tool.

Q: Why can't I print to my HP 500?
A: Make sure the USB is enabled. If it is, check if the USB support is installed.

Q: My computer can't seem to detect the cable.
A: The USB is probably not working on the computer side. You should contact your computer manufacturer.

Q: My computer won't load the driver for the unit. The Device Manager tells me that there is an "Unknown device".
A: Use the "Update Driver" button under the device properties, then use the provided driver that came with the unit under the driver location: DRIVE:\UC1284\Win98.

Q: My Epson 800 won't print.
A: Check the printer manual. You might have to configure a special setting for the Epson Spool Manager.

Q: I've installed a new driver for the unit and I can now access the USB parallel port, but when I print to the Lexmark 2050, the printer keeps form-feeding the paper and there's no way to stop it unless I restart the PC.
A: Check your printer settings and try to uninstall everything. Reinstall UC1284 first, then reinstall the printer. You can also try using the driver that comes with Windows 98 instead of the driver that comes with the printer. It might be that this unit is not fully compatible with the Lexmark 2050 printer, however we will soon have the UC1284B should resolve the problem since it will be bi-directional.

Q: I'm using a Canon 5000 on the USB port and I have an HP on another port, but the Canon won't print. I get an error message when I try to print to LPT1 USB port. Then I set the port to print on the UC1284 port. I didn't get an error message this time, and it would send the print job to queue, but nothing would print.
A: Try uninstalling the UC1284 and the printer. Then reinstall the UC1284 first, then the printer. There might be a compatibility problem with the Canon printer, so we suggest you switch the printers and put the HP on the USB parallel port.

Q: Will the UC1284 degrade system performance since it supports the bi-directional feature and I need to disable this feature to make it work?
A: No, it will not degrade the system performance. You have to disable it because of the limitation in converting from USB to parallel. So far we haven't encountered any USB to parallel converters that can support bi-directional. This is just a misprint on the packaging.

Q: I've recently acquired a new PC and HP Deskjet 820Cse but they don't work, what could be the problem?
A: Try installing the printer to LPT port first, then change it to USB to parallel port.

Q: I could not install the converter. When I manually set it up, it didn't show up under device manager.
A: Run UC-REMOVE and plug the converter and see if Windows can detect and install the driver. If it still says "Unknown device" under the device manager, go to "reinstall driver" or "upgrade driver". If you are running on Win 95, update to Win 98 for full USB support.

Q: I've been using the UC1284 for several months without any problems until I got a USB hub, an Epson printer and a second UC1284 unit and now it doesn't work (except for the laser printer which works through the hub).
A: Disable the bi-directional feature for the Epson printer, check the spool to local printer and use print manager for this port. You may need to uninstall UC1284 and the printer, then reinstall the UC1284 first before the printer.

Q: How do I load the driver?
A: The system should automatically detect the adapter when you plug it in, just specify the driver location as CD-ROM or floppy drive.

Q: Does not work with my Dell and HP 5P.
A: Check the USB parallel adapter to see if it is properly installed, disable the bi-directional feature for the HP printer.

Q: Whenever I reboot the computer, I get an error printing to the printer. I had to unplug and replug the cable to get it to work.
A: Try to reinstall the UC1284 cable, or if you have the same problem with the other USB devices, reinstall the USB controller as well.

*For general printing problems, do the following general check:

  1. Make sure you turn on the USB option in the BIOS.
  2. Make sure you've installed the driver properly.
  3. Make sure your system supports USB.
  4. Make sure you are printing to USB port rather than LPT1.
  5. Download the latest drivers from our website.
  6. You may have to disable the bi-directional communication.
  7. Install the UC1284 first before installing the printer.
  8. Install the printer to LPT port first, then change it over to the UC1284 port

A: We ran some tests and it seems fine to use this unit with a USB repeater.

Q: I am using 2 adapter cables, but I can't print.
A: Disconnect one cable and try again. If that does not work, run cleanup.exe and reinstall the cable. You may have to install a new driver.

Q: Does the UC1284G support the Canon BJC5100 and the HP Deskjet 712C, and is this bi-directional?
A: This unit is not bi-directional but we are not aware of any compatibility problems for Canon BJC5100. although if you have problems with the HP, try to uninstall the UC1284G and the printer driver. Then reinstall the UC1284G first before the printer driver.

Q: Can I use the UC1284G for ECP/EPP parallel devices?
A: the UC1284 GB is a bi-directional version for EPP/ECP printers, but it still only supports printers.

Q: I can't seem to find a driver for the Mac G4.
A: You should get the UC1284GM which is for the Mac.

Q: I've installed a UH102 unit, but the system won't load the correct drivers, where can I get updated drivers?
A: The necessary drivers are usually included with the Windows 95 and 98. Check your version of Win 95, also make sure that the USB supplement is installed.

Q: Why doesn't my modem work?
A: Check whether both LEDs light up, and when you plug the modem in, check to see if the system can detect the device. You may need to go to the device manager to reinstall the modem. If these steps don't help, you may have to check whether the modem requires a powered USB hub.

Q: Does the USB hub have a cascade port and how does it work?
A: This unit does not have a cascade port. To cascade the unit you have to take the output and go to the input on the next hub.

Q: I have to unplug the UH104 unit to boot up the Mac computer, then plug it in. What driver do I need to resolve this problem?-- 
A: You should have a built-in driver with OS. Try taking off the devices connected to the hub and see if the problem persists. 

Q: I cannot install the hub properly and no driver came with the unit.--
A: The driver should be in Win 98 under: C:\windows\system32\drivers\subhub.sys

Q: I lost the power supply and the LEDs on ports 1 to 4 did not turn on. This happened on two separate units that I purchased.
A: The power adapter is not necessary, but we have to verify whether it is the unit itself that is not functioning. Try plugging the hub into the computer's USB port and wait for several seconds for the hub to distribute the power drawn from the computer to the 4 ports.

Q: I can't use any of the 3 USB devices on an AMD computer while the USB mouse works though the hub on another computer.-- 
A: Check under the device manager to see whether the hub is properly installed or the USB host controller and the root hub is properly installed. Reinstall them if they are not.

A: Gave list of Win2K driver and send him coinst.dll in case it is missing on his CD.

A: It works now and still works after unpluging/repluging the docking station, it should be fine. The 3 attempts might be in the middle of driver installation and system configuration.

A: Tried to remove host controller to activate the system, didn't remove, but system was responding now, sent him missing file.

A: Assign the IP addresses to 2 computers, reboot, ping each other OK, from one PC ping the other one by name OK, but from second one could not ping the first one by name. Network neighborhood doesn't show connection, tried to type name directly, could not connect. Told her set up user name to log on, same result, it is probabaly configuration problem.

A: Try to add more users on the local system.

Q: Asked whether the parallel port supports CD-ROM, and whether we have a version with monitor outlet.

A: Check which USB B connector he is using to connect to computer, check device manager to see whether these devices are installed, gave him a list of the devices on docking station.

Q: First of all, the device package says UR-2000m, the device says USC-2000, there is no LED as indicated in the manual on the device.I have spoken to Myra in your Vegas office with no return guidance. I am wunning Windows 2000. When I install the driver, a component goes in to the com port area, but no component goes into the USB area, The device does not work. The instruction manual section on checking the installation clearly states that a component should have been installed under the USB Controller heading at the device manager. There is none there. There is an entry at the com port heading. When connecting the setial device, there is nothing happening. Also, durring the last congersation I had with one of your tech people, I was told to try a Serial mouse to insure that the device is working. The manual clearly stated that this device does not support a serial mouns as it requires an IRQ. I am lost.

1. UR2000M is our part number while USC2000 is manufacturer part number, I am sorry for the confusion;
2. I tested UR2000M on Win2K with 3 different serial mice and all worked fine;

Q: Can I use this cable to install software from the desktop's CD-ROM to my laptop?
A: In order to do this, you need to open the USB-LINQ windows on both computers and click "CONNECT" to establish the communication between the 2 computers. Then you should be able to access the CD-ROM from the laptop. You will not be able to run the application remotely though, you will have to copy the files to your laptop and install it locally.

Q: When I transfer big files, my computer hangs in the middle of the transfer, also it disconnects the other PC once in a while.
A: We tested this on Windows 95 and 98 and we were able to transfer over 100 MB without the machine hanging. The problem could be in Win 98, or check your motherboard manufacturer, USB controller manufacturer and software.

Q: How does the USB-LINQ work?
A: It works like File Manager with windows.

Q: I received a new driver in my e-mail, but I can't figure out how to use it. I can't find a Win 98 folder to define the system.
A: this is a self-extracting file, just double click it and it will extract the driver files into your C:\drivers\usblinq directory. Then just indicate the directory path when you load it up.

Q: My laptop won't detect the USB bridge cable.
A: You might have to contact your hardware supplier for an installation of USB support on your laptop.

Q: When I tried to use a newer driver version, the system won't even see the remote machine.
A: Currently, there are problems with the USB specs and we are still checking the new software. It has resolved the power management problem, but we don't know if it has improved large file transfers.

Q: I can't load it to my desktop which is running on Win 95 with USB supplement.
A: Try to run the setup, put the driver file on the hard drive, then load the driver from the hard drive.

Q: I don't get the green light on my laptop machine.
A: Check to see if the driver is installed on the laptop.

Q: I get 2 red lights on both machines, why is that?
A: Reinstall the cable on both machines and uninstall the USB host controller and reinstall the USB bridge cable. That should work.

Q: Will the USB-Linq do a USB networking hook up?-- 
A: The USB-Qnet would be better to do the job.

A: The USB-Qnet is not specially designed for games, but if the games are designed for a peer to peer network, it should work.

A: You can daisy chain up to 5 repeaters which should run up to 80 feet.

A: True DOS does not support USB, only the DOS box in Windows 95/98 supports USB.

Q: How do I enable my USB?
A: You enable it in the BIOS and install the USB controller. If you are on Win 95, you should upgrade to Win 98 for full USB support.

Q: I have 3 UC1284 units, can I use these on Win NT?
A: Only Windows 2000 supports USB.

Q: Will the USB to printer work for other parallel devices, and how long is the maximum distance that USB can go?
A: It will only work for printers and the maximum distance for USB cables is 5 meters. Our USB repeater has 16 feet of built-in cable.

Q: I got the USC1000 adapter for my parallel device because the user guide said it is for both serial and parallel - can I really use it with both?
A: It is only actually for serial, it is a misprint on the user guide.

Q: Is the USC1000 capable of connecting with a Zip Drive?
A: No, it is only for serial devices.

Q: Do you have an updated USC1000 driver for an NT?-- 
A: The NT doesn't have USB support. You will not be able to use any USB devices on an NT computer below the Windows 2000 version.
